Clear or bonded
A clear retainer is a thin tray you take out to eat and brush. A bonded retainer is a fine wire glued behind the front teeth. Some patients wear both.
How long to wear it

Most patients wear a clear retainer full time at first, then at night. We give you the schedule in writing when treatment ends.
Lost or broken retainers
Call us. We can scan your teeth and make a new one. The sooner you call, the less the teeth move.
Questions about retainers
I stopped wearing my retainer years ago. Can it be fixed?
Often, yes. Come in for a check. A new retainer or a short course of aligners may bring the teeth back.
How do I clean a clear retainer?
Rinse it and brush it gently with cool water. Hot water can bend it.
